This Mother’s Day, treat the special women in your life to a day of relaxation, creativity, and connection with nature. Stroll through an early spring garden, take part in a hands-on workshop or zen yoga class, update those family photos, or simply soak in the beauty of the spring season with loved ones – including Fido. With activities for all ages, and good dogs on leashes welcomed again this year, Mother’s Day at the Garden is truly a day to cherish.

  • The Garden is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Mother’s Day activities run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Some activities require a fee to cover the cost of materials and instructor. While supplies last - advance booking recommended.
  • Regular Garden admission applies, and can be booked in advance online or purchased at the gate.


What’s Happening

Yoga in the Amphitheatre - 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
Take a nourishing breath and enjoy the mindful practice under the open sky with three rejuvenating yoga sessions led by instructor Nozomi Kamei in the Amphitheatre. These sessions are the perfect way to unwind while surrounded by nature. Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, variations in postures and movements will be provided to encourage you to practice at your own pace.

Please dress for the weather and bring a yoga mat (limited quantities will be available on site), a blanket or blocks if you’d like, and any amount of curiosity and an open mind. Once you are in the session space, please turn off your cell phone so you can enjoy tuning into the present moment surrounded by nature.

Please note: While these sessions are designed primarily for adults, older children who are interested in participating are welcome. We kindly ask that children remain under direct supervision and be accompanied by their parent or guardian during the session. All participants will need to complete a waiver before attending.

What's Mother's Day Without Brunch? - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cafe al Fresco, operated by the Party People Catering Co., is offering a specially curated Brunch Box from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., packed with gourmet bites and sweet treats she’ll love, ready to enjoy in your favorite garden spot. Plus, there will be special beverages available for purchase, perfect for toasting to an incredible Mom in your life.

Or, you can simply choose from an a la carte selection of delectable fresh-made sandwiches, bowls, salads, hot dogs, ice cream and baked goods along with coffee, cold beverages, wine and beer at the Cafe al Fresco.

Make Your Own Planter - 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last.
Nourish your green thumb and plant something special to take home. Our friendly staff will guide you in crafting your own personalized planter, perfect for adding a pop of color or greenery to your space. Choose from 3 options:

  • with a small biodegradable or clay pot ($5/ea),
  • with a clay pot ($15/ea),
  • with a clay pot ($25/ea).

Whether you're a seasoned plant lover or just beginning your gardening journey, this hands-on experience is perfect for all ages.

Family Photos - 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Capture the special moments of the day with professional family photos in the Garden. Whether you're celebrating with your mom, a special loved one, or your entire family (including Fido!), photographer Yuki of Amaire & Co., will be available to snap beautiful, timeless photos that you can cherish for years to come. This is the perfect opportunity to make this Mother's Day even more special.

Each photo session is 30 minutes and starts at 11 a.m. There will be 8 time slots to choose from. Depending on the time slot, the photos will be either in the Aga Khan Garden or Kurimoto Japanese Garden, so please make sure to double check before confirming your booking.

Woodland Forest Watercolor Workshop - 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Join artist Greg Hoosier in this 2.5 hour woodland forest watercolour workshop. Greg will begin by leading participants on a nature walk and talk through the Garden’s forested areas. During the walk, you’ll select and photograph your own reference scene. Please ensure you bring a cellphone or another device that can take and display photos, as you’ll need it for the painting portion of the workshop.

Following the walk, Greg will guide participants through a three-step process to create an original painting of a woodland forest. This workshop is recommended for older kids or adults with some painting experience. All materials and supplies will be provided.

Wild Mushroom Walks - 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The popular Wild Mushrooms Walks returns. Come explore explore the wonderful world of mushrooms with expert Martin Osis, who will be leading a number of mushroom discovery walks through the Garden’s natural areas this summer, beginning on May 11. These walks have been very popular and we recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.

$45 + tax per person, which includes admission.

Mini Wetland Wonders Pond Catch

Curious to see what critters cruise around in our Calla Pond? Then join us for a mini Wetland Wonders pond catch! Grab your nets and spend some science time looking into the hidden world of aquatic creatures. One of our amazing interpreters will teach you all about wetlands and help you catch some fascinating species. Located at the Learning Dock on the Calla Pond (Aga Khan Garden).

To make sure everyone stays safe, kiddos must be accompanied by parents or adult helpers. This pond catch is drop-in style (plus the cost of general admission), so families can come and stay for as long as they would like.
