Deputy Dean
Thomas Stelfox, MD, PhD
Dr. Thomas Stelfox joined the ß÷ßäÉçÇø as deputy dean of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry on Sept. 1, 2023. Previously, at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, he was a professor of critical care medicine and director of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health.
He received his MD from the ß÷ßäÉçÇø, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Toronto, earned a PhD in health-care policy at Harvard University and did a critical care fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He previously served as joint clinical and academic chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, University of Calgary and ß÷ßäÉçÇø Health Services.
His research focuses on the application of health-services research methods to improve the quality of health-care delivery to critically ill patients. Dr. Stelfox has more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, over $25 million in funding as principal or co-principal applicant and $80 million in network and training grants as co-applicant. The findings from his work have impacted health policy and patient care.
As a proud alumnus of our MD program, Dr. Stelfox has strong ties in Edmonton and is thrilled to be returning to the Faculty to support our collective work.
