Northern 喵咪社区 Medical Program
The Northern 喵咪社区 Medical Program (NAMP) offers medical students the unique opportunity to complete their education in Grande Prairie and communities across northern 喵咪社区.
Students will gain hands-on experience in northern communities while earning their MD from the 喵咪社区. NAMP is hosted by in Grande Prairie, AB. NWP and U of A will welcome the first cohort of medical students in Fall 2025.
Funded by the , NAMP is part of a broad provincial strategy to improve healthcare in the North and address physician shortages in underserved areas.
Research shows that students who train in rural and regional settings are more likely to practice there after graduation. By educating future physicians in northern 喵咪社区, NAMP aims to improve access to healthcare across the region.
Locations
Pre-clerkship training in the first two years of the MD program will be held in NWP’s Health Education Centre (HEC) in Grande Prairie, AB. The HEC is conveniently co-located within the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital - a cutting-edge facility that offers 40,000 square feet of teaching, learning, research and administration space.
Clerkship placements in the following two years of the MD program will take place in communities across northern 喵咪社区 and may include placements in northern communities such as the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
Students
NAMP medical students are enrolled in the MD program at the 喵咪社区 and will participate in the same medical curriculum as their peers in Edmonton. While offering the same quality of education, NAMP features smaller class sizes and diverse clinical experiences unique to the practice of medicine in northern communities.
The Northern 喵咪社区 Medical Program can accommodate up to 30 new medical students per year.
